I have a html file that delivers information to my php script, check against a file on the server and then continues to another page with the information. Origionally i was using get with: header("Location: file.php?login=variable"); but then i changed the method from get to post and now i dont know how to send the information from my php file to the next file. I am trying to have a refined search option for a car classified site, such that when a search is performed a set of predefined categories will list out (by default) with the 'count' of availability based on the search made. the concept is more like tag cloud but the difference is the weighted keywords appear based on the search term performed and it should list out all the predefined keywords regardless of the availability as per search performed. Hi, I'm at a difficult juncture. Basically, all the planning for my new site is done, and the session management is going okay, and I'm ready to start building it. I have a really cool idea in mind for the site - essentially, it's an AJAX navigation system. As in, the header and sidebar stay the same, but the content will change smoothly. This gives a really nice feel while browsing the site, and looks cool. You can see what I mean here: (The first draft of it, and the actual manifestation, respectively. It's actually fairly similar to gmail.) http://www.mel.ericvernon.com http://www.dev.rpgfish.com The issue here is that there are many things which could go wrong. The cons I see are: -If JavaScript is turned off, it won't function -SSL is going to either be impossible or simply out of the question, or I'd have to break the nav system for a page load or two -Not all browsers support AJAX -It's turning out to be really hard to code, especially forms (but still doable = D ) What's your opinion on this? Is it worth the trade-off?

So I've always been curious, and never been able to figure out, how exactly do chat rooms work? (as far as the coding behind them) I've had some ideas such as they post to a file, or a mySQL database and then you just get a page that refreshes every couple of seconds or would check a database every couple of seconds to see if there has been an update and then refresh the page with the update but that doesn't seem like the right way to do it.. So does anyone know how chat rooms actually do work? I'm not asking for specific code but more of a general idea. Thanks for any enlightenment

I am using jQuery to pop up a dialog box that might contain different things from iframes to image to ajax...I need a way to detect when a request is sent and when the loading is completed ( the answer to the request) in order to create a "loading..." message that would work for any instance. with Ajax it is easy ( ajax status), so it is with an img ( onload action) but iframes I have no idea how to do it...besides it would be nice to have a universal approach for all instead of a specific one for each case. To handle a form submit i've made a php script. But if I just get the dropdowns boxes value using $post or $request it gives me a number value. This is becuase there is hundreds of possible selections and I don't want to go and give every selection a big value. Can I use php to get the actual selection that's clicked on?

I want to learn how to make soap. I already know how to melt bars of soap and add ajax and fat, etc. to them as they are hot. But, I want to make from scratch. I found this online. *This is the recipe I used for my first time. It was very easy and the product was nice enough that we haven't had any store bought soap in 10 years! You can change the product by adding scents or honey and oatmeal to get variety. Tony's No fail Soap 6lbs lard 12oz. lye 2 cups water (or half of this with milk for a more family use soap) Take the lard and place ot into an enamel ware pan and place on stove to melt and heat. Low temp, slowly. Take the 2 cups of liquid (very cold) and place ito glass bowl and SLOWLY add lye while stirring with a wooden spoon. Stir until liquid is clear if you can due to fumes from the lye ,do this outside. When the lard and lye are warm to the touch feel outside of pan and glass. Pour lye into lard while stirring. Keep sturring until you get trace. Trace is when it thickens to a sort of cake frosting look or until you can drop some of lthe mix back in to itself and it leaves a trail at this point use any herbs or coloring(shave a crayon(the old kind made of wax) to give it color and harden the soap.Stir and pour into any plastic molds you have around can even use Pringles chip cans or rubbermade plastic be sure the grease the mods with lard. Let set 24 hours, turn out and cut to size you want(2x3 are good family sizes) Place on newspaper and let cure (dry) for 2-3 weeks. Makes about 24 bars depending on size you cut.

I've got a dropdown menu that is populated with a field from one table. When selected, it should REPLACE the only record in another table. But nothing happens, and I get no warnings or errors. I can do this through a static dropdown menu, but I want the menu to be generated dynamically. If I code values in, the table is changed. But I don't seem to be able to figure out how to get my variables into that table. I don't know what it was that did it but at my job im on a rotating schedule and when on midnights we have to ajax EVERYTHING in the restaurant. there are also a lot of dishes to be washed so Im not sure if it was the ajax or dish soap but something burnt my hands mostly in the knuckle area. How can I limit a row in a table to not go above 100 and not below 0, such as in percents, when that row is updated, and if the value ends up above 100 it will end up as 100, and if it goes below 0, it will end up as 0? Here is the code that I'm using as an example. I want to add 5 points to "mood" but that if adding that would cause it to go over 100, that the table would be updated with 100. I have a PHP form that simply updates a certain field in a MySQL database. It's for articles on my site so I can easily edit articles without logging into PHPMyAdmin, etc. The problem is, is that when I try to edit and submit a long article, it gives me an error (typical Internet Explorer, 'Page Cannot Be Displayed') but if I try to edit and submit a short article, no error pops up. I think it's because in the URL, it goes blah.php?article=*article here* which makes the link really long and not be able to continue. Because when I look at the link when it shows the error, it looks like it got cut off. How can I fix this problem? BTW, the error pops up after I send the edited content on the page where I use PHP to UPDATE MySQL. Thanks! Oh and if you need more information, just ask!

I would like comments, tags for photos, user profiles they can customize, and other active content that could upload from a database. I am more a designer than developer, but more interested as I study advancements in internet technologies. Should i start with PHP, AJAX, or something else? How would you upload files to my server via html page?

I need make a web page that you are able to click browse and then click upload to upload specific file types onto my ftp server. The page needs to be kind of like rapidshare.com. I have no clue where to even look to find out how this would be done or what type of programming it will involve besides html(maybe php, etc.). for some reason when i go into the xampp control panel and click start on apache and mysql it won't start? it says that its busy? i checked the ports and it says they're free so i'm stumped! i am however doing this on a laptop so it's not connected directly to the router if this could affect it? 10 points for best answer :)
