Yankees lurking in Teixeira bidding?

demo 20 Dec 2008 08:45pm
A source from mlbtraderumors.com is stating such a thing.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/12/mark-teixeira-7.html

Will the Yankees sign him?! 8-10 years 200 million to 250 million?

Or will they be outbid by another team?

i'm a Yankees fan, and i'd rather sign Teix over Manny anyday of the week, because to be honest the team is getting older, the Yanks need to get younger, There's only CC, Wang, Joba, and Maybe Hughes, that are good young blood in the pitching staff. With the bats, well cano and cabrera, gardner, and Ajax still need to develop a little more, and with a signing of Teixeira the Yankees will have a solid core to build around for the next generation.

The old-timers only have a few good years left of baseball left in em(Damon, Jeter, Matsui, A-rod, Pettite, Posada, Mariano), we need to get younger to become legitimate contenders in the playoffs, not only this year, but for a long time to come.

Whats your input on this?

Come on Cashman, Sign pettite! 25.5 million for 10 years. Resign pettite for 10 million for 1 year, and we're done! We can't afford for him to sign with the Sox let alone the Angels who have the Yankees number in the postseason!

And the Sox, have a great young core(Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Beckett, Masterson, Lester, and the rest of em), and they're only getting better. I respect the Red Sox team, and what they can do. NOT their fans, well at least most of their fans.

SIGN MARK TEIXEIRA NOW CASHMAN!

Let Manny Go back to L.A!
Main Question: Will the Yankees place their bid on Teixiera? If so, when?
Yeah, you're right, 25.5 million for 10 years is a little much, but i was just exaggerating, because this has dragged on for a little too long.

Was there a question there?

I've read there is some debate in the Yankee organization about going after Teixeira (or Ramirez). Personally, I think Teixeira is a better fit for them, but he'll be really expensive and supposedly the Yankees want to cut payroll a bit for next year.

What a koo that would be if the yankee's pulled the rug right under Theo and the man that labled the yankees the evil empire John Henry's feet.I would LMAO.However i do not belive this rumor.I belive the nationals are going to offer him 200mil for 10 yrs.

If you are a Yankee fan, would you WANT them to spend $450M on THREE players?

I wouldn't. Teixeira is a big upgrade over Swisher, but he's NOT worth $200M over 8 years. Remeber Boston spent $160M for Manny in his prime, and Manny is a more talented and dangerous hitter than Teixeira. Manny, at age 36, had similar stats as Teixeira (age 29) last year.

The Yankees are better off saving that money and using it to address other areas.

so what i read on redsox.com says that where tex goes depends on his priorities at this point. close to home: not the angels. money: yankees, nats (lucchino said they were out, but now possibly we aren't... so maybe sox) years: nats winning: angels, sox, or yanks (or possibly nats for a rays repeat). but if he does go to the yanks i'm glad to have good strong competition with the yankees again :)
ps thanks for adding the most of the fans part.

yankees wont do it...the spent too much already

wouldnt be suprised if they did offer him 200 mill. thats their solution for everything, spend money! except that new stadium...they want taxpayers to pay $370 million for that!!

If the Yankees resign Andy Pettitte at 10M and sign Teixeira for around 23M they will have 5Million less on their payroll than last year, and become a favorite for the championship. But 25.5 million for 10 years? Are you insane? He's not that good, he's not a-rod. I think the Yankees should jump in at 181 for 8 years. No one's going to go over that, and Boras should stop playing the waiting game he's driving everyone insane!

They have already spent too much money on getting CC and AJ Burnett. They might go after Manny.

doubt it, but if the yankees were driving up the price so that the red sox didnt get him, I applaud them!

Thumbs down comes from red sox fans who cant take their own medicine!

The Yanks have tons of $$$$$$$ to spend. If they want him they will get him. They may have other ideas. Including Manny. Or they may just go for both. Who knows with them.

i am also a yankees fan and i agree 100% the yanks need a young base. the yankees fell in love with posada jeter mo and kind of damon so we kept them sure thats all right but while they brokeout the check book for them we lost all the great young athletes that will be the nextjeter or the next a-rod or the next rivera. so cashman needs to through an offer out there tex is a great player and him backking up arod for the next 10 years is what i think could be the next manny and big papi. i also no that tex said he will decide his new home in the next few days my gess b4 christmas so we need to doit fast or our pitching will have a heavy burdin to carry even with
A-ROD with lets say 43 homers this year. i honestly wouldnt mind the house that tex built would you we already handed the pitching duties to C.C.

I have a feeling that Tex is going to the Nationals, and were getting Manny. ESPN is reporting a 3 year contract is apparently in the works so I think that thats more plausible than Tex coming over.
