You will need Java to view some web pages correctly. I would suggest that you get the most recent build and keep it operational.

Why would you want to? Most web sites require it, and the stories about it being dangerous to your computer are just that - stories. I don't even let people with Javascript turned off access my sites - my noscript is always something to the effect of "sorry, but you need to turn Javascript on to access this site". Then I redirect them to a text page that explains how to turn it back on in various browsers. (And the people who use my sites are large corporations whose names you're very familiar with. Whatever their corporate policy is, mine is that I don't write web pages without Javascript. So far none of them have objected.)

(BTW, that's Javascript, not Jave - they're totally different things, and you won't find Java in your browser.)
